About Migoti Coffee

Burundi Kayanza Ruvumu tells a story of people, passion, and progress. From the Umuco washing station in Muruta Commune, this fully washed Bourbon lot showcases sweet dedication and big ambition in every cup.

Behind it is Migoti Coffee Company, founded by engineers Dan and Pontien, who are rebuilding Burundi’s coffee communities with quality and transparency. The Umuco station itself was started in 2017 by three local entrepreneurs: Picasso, Zephyrin, and Jeremie. Among other things, they have planted 32,000 trees, shared seedlings with farmers, and in 2024 opened a modern washing station that now supports more than 1,700 growers. Nicely done!

By empowering farmers with better productivity, fairer pricing, and new opportunities for planting, they’re helping drive sustainable change in a region where it matters most.

The result is a Bourbon varietal treated with meticulous care: de-pulped, fermented for 12–24 hours, and dried on raised beds for up to three weeks before being cupped and selected for quality. It’s a coffee that tastes exceptional and carries a message of community, innovation, and hope.

What Is Filter Roast Anyway?

AKA: If you make espresso, don’t buy this.

Filter roast is coffee that’s been roasted to shine in slow, chill brew methods like pour-over, AeroPress, or drip coffee. It’s all about those delicate, complex flavors — the ones you actually want to taste when you’re not half-asleep and smashing a double shot.

This roast is lighter and sweeter, bringing out the bean’s natural character (like wine, but less pretentious). Perfect for those who like to savor their coffee, not slam it back.

So, if your coffee machine sounds like a jet engine, this one’s not for you. But if you love a clean, balanced brew that makes your mornings feel a little brighter — welcome to the filter roast club. 😎

  • Filter roasts allow the more delicate, floral and fruity notes of coffee to shine. It allows us to roast and experience coffees with very unique characteristics that do not typically pair well with milk or espresso.

  • Filter refers to the brewing method of the coffee. Filter roasts are ideal for brewing with slower methods that incorporate a paper or metal filtration. Typical brewing times for filter roasts are 2-4 minutes.

  • Yes you can, but the results may not be to your liking if you prefer a sweeter and fruiter style coffee.
